A little bit of history

Artie was born out of an experiment with Artificial Intelligence in October 2024. Noting that we could ask an AI engine to create some lyrics based on an idea, a phrase or a word, we set about finding a separate application that could put those lyrics to music.

The band's management is 100% committed to live music and real musicians - this experiment is not designed to replace live musicians and songwriters. Rather, we have built this platform to demonstrate the superiority of real music and real musicians over the stuff that AI can create.

According to one AI engine ...

"Artie Fishall & The Intelligence is an Australian music project led by Artie Fishall, known for blending various genres such as rock, pop, and electronic. The project gained attention for its unique sound and engaging performances, often featuring a mix of original compositions and innovative covers. Fishall’s work is characterised by a focus on lyrical storytelling and dynamic instrumentation, appealing to a diverse audience within the indie music scene."

And another one (this one seems to be onto us!) ...

Artie Fishall & The Intelligence appears to be a satirical persona or fictional band that plays on the words “artificial intelligence.” The name “Artie Fishall” sounds like “artificial,” and “The Intelligence” likely points to AI. This type of character or account on social media might post humorous, parody, or AI-themed content, poking fun at tech trends, digital culture, or the quirks of AI.

Accounts with names like this often adopt a playful approach, mixing real-world observations with tech satire. They might use exaggerated humour or wit to comment on current AI-related topics. If you’ve seen posts by Artie Fishall & The Intelligence, they may be using this creative alias to engage with social media audiences in a lighthearted, possibly even educational way about AI and technology."

We are often asked about our lyrical inspiration, which we think comes from one of two sources:

  • For our commissioned work, we take the message that our client wants us to present and use that as our starting point
  • For our non-commissioned work, there's usually a bit of a story involved.

How often do you catch a single sentence or phrase from an on-going conversation, maybe as you pass someone in the street or when the noise level in a cafe drops? Artie believes these one-liners are the best inspiration - take the one-liner and ask our favourite AI lyrics generator to create a back story in lyrical form.

As you can see from some of our songs, this approach creates some weird sounding titles and, therefore, lyrics, but that's just how we like it!

One of the most famous examples of this one-liner approach is the 1979 television advertisement for the now-defunct Australian drink, Clayton's Cola Tonic. Australian actor, Jack Thompson, while holding court at the bar, starts the ad with what appears to be the punchline to a joke - "now we can all get some sleep". This led to numerous radio competitions, asking listeners to come up with the rest of the joke, but no definitive answer was ever revealed.

But, you'll be pleased to know that Artie is on to it! Take a listen to the track Now We Can All Get Some Sleep from the group's debut album, We're Unreal.
