Meet the band

Artie Fishall
Vocals, guitarArtie Fishall is the creative nucleus of Artie Fishall & The Intelligence, born and raised along Victoria’s iconic Surf Coast.
A natural storyteller, Artie’s formative years were shaped by the wild drama of ocean storms, local football rivalries, and the vibrant patchwork of community life. He spent his youth not just soaking in surf culture, but also chronicling local tales with a battered tape recorder and guitar. Artie’s eclectic taste - spanning classic Australian pub rock to rootsy folk via a healthy dose of country - fuels the band’s blend of playful irreverence and genuine heart. Today, his performances invoke the wit and weather of coastal Australia, delivering sharp lyrics and rich soundscapes that celebrate people, place, and memory.
On stage, Artie leads the band with energy and warmth, cementing his reputation as a regional songwriter with national impact.

Indie Pendant
Keyboards, vocalsA sonic explorer with her roots in the Otways, Indie Pendant is the architect of the band’s melodic and harmonic backbone.
Fascinated by electronic music and classic Aussie keyboard pop, Indie weaves together swirling synth lines with acoustic piano and quirky effects. Indie’s background includes stints in local jazz ensembles, producing soundtracks for community theatre, and perfecting the art of vocal harmonies at late-night Surf Coast singalongs. Her approach to arrangement is intuitive and intentionally unexpected, drawing listeners into new worlds within every song. Indie’s technical skills and improvisational creativity give the band its dynamic range, providing sparkling accents to Artie’s storytelling and Sammy’s rhythms.
Off the stage, Indie is passionate about supporting local venues and often volunteers for grassroots arts festivals.

Lucy Lastyk
Bass, vocalsLucy Lastyk brings substance, groove, and soul to Artie Fishall & The Intelligence as bassist and backing vocalist.
Raised in Anglesea, Lucy’s early musical life revolved around her family’s bush-dance traditions and late-night jams on the Surf Coast. As a teenager, she learned bass by ear, developing a style both solid and inventive - often described as “the pulse of the dunes.” Lucy’s playing is the glue that knits together the band’s eccentric ideas, grounding their surf-inspired sound with deep rhythm and melodic counterpoints. Known for her magnetic stage presence, Lucy is also a resourceful collaborator offstage. She’s an active supporter of female musicians in regional Victoria, helps run community instrument drives, and is beloved for her impromptu backyard concerts.
Lucy’s keen ear and steadfast groove make her an essential part of the group’s chemistry and collective voice.

Sammy Conductor
Drums, percussion, backing vocalsPowering the band from behind the drum kit, Sammy Conductor is its rhythmic anchor and comic relief.
Raised in a household where community events always centred around music, Sammy learned early on how the right beat could get a crowd moving - and a footy team celebrating. With experience in local radio, Sammy brings impeccable timing not only to percussion but to the band’s improvised on-stage dialogue. Whether locking in grooves for driving pub anthems or adding subtle textures on stripped-back tracks, Sammy’s versatility shines. Known for blending vintage drum sounds with digital effects, he brings both nostalgic and contemporary flavour to every set.
Offstage, Sammy is an advocate for youth music programs and is often found lending a hand at regional music workshops.

Al O'Mentry
Cor anglais, flugel horn, spreadsheets, coffeeAl O’Mentry is the band’s multi-instrumental sage, bringing unexpected warmth and quirky soul to every song, whether through the mellow tones of his Cor Anglais or the brass punch of his flugel horn.
Raised in Apollo Bay, in an Irish immigrant family of amateur actors and cafe musicians, Al learned early that art often hides in the odd corners of life -and so does great coffee. Throughout school, Al was fascinated by classical wind ensembles, but his curiosity drew him toward mixing traditional sounds with surf-inspired melodies and playful arrangements. He’s infamous for improvising horn parts based on overheard conversations or the daily weather report, and he always arrives at rehearsal with a thermos of single-origin brew to fuel the band’s creativity.
Outside the band, Al volunteers with local theatre groups and runs a weekend “sound bath” using homemade instruments. His instinct for musical storytelling and his signature humour give The Intelligence their offbeat backbone, ensuring each gig is distinctive, welcoming, and just a bit unpredictable.

Willie B. Okay
Producer, all-round good time dude, social directorBorn in Chicago and raised on a soundtrack of soul, blues, and experimental jazz, Willie B. Okay brought a world of audio experience when he arrived in Australia in his mid-teens.
Fascinated by the boundless landscapes and DIY spirit of regional Victoria, Willie quickly found his place behind the scenes, where his meticulous ear and innovative approach became the backbone of Artie Fishall & The Intelligence’s recorded sound. Willie is a producer who thrives on collaboration, building atmospheric layers and crisp arrangements that elevate the band’s stories while preserving their authentic Surf Coast edge. Drawing on his roots in the American Midwest and his adopted home’s vibrant music scene, Willie deftly blends analog warmth with digital innovation. He is revered for shaping mixes that capture not just songs, but the mood, humour, and heart of the community they spring from.
When he’s not refining tracks in the studio, Willieis active in mentoring young producers and supporting cross-cultural music exchange projects nationwide. His passion for storytelling, sound design, and nurturing creative voices is fundamental to the band’s dynamic, original catalogue.
Collaborators
Every now and again, we collaborate with talented artists or producers to create some audio magic. We think it's only right to acknowledge their great work on our web site.

Polly Fonic
VocalsPolly Fonic is a well-known voice in the world of AI-generated music, spending most of her time recording near Byron Bay in NSW. against the back fence. Her mum sang in the local choir, her dad fixed dodgy amps on the verandah, and Polly learned early that a slightly broken sound could still be beautiful.
Polly made a name as a “weather” singer – called in when a track needed air, breath and a voice that could sit just behind the beat. She’s known for layered whispers, almost‑unison lines, and the way she’ll sing into the corner of the room to let the timber shape the sound.
On “The Wind Was Kind”, Polly’s vocals drift around Artie’s lead like sea mist, turning a simple melody into something gently haunted. She spends most of her time between Byron, Bangalow and the back roads in between, turning local weather and overheard conversations into the next set of harmonies.
